Lesson Plans
Though I generally do not regard overly detailed lesson plans very highly, since any lesson plan format artifically and ineffectually attempts to eliminate the spontaneous element that is in fact so highly desirable in any classroom, I choose to include this set of lesson plans because they illustrate how even overblown and prepackaged lesson plans can serve at least as an effective, organic lesson template on any given day. The students hit various levels of learning from basic memorization to the deeply critical all within a six-day cycle - or rather, of Bloom's taxonomy, if one must employ the lingo. And in terms of STAI indicators, everything is included: explicit comparison of material to every day life (indicator eight), numerous assessments that evaluate various skills such as basic translation or creative analysis (indicator four), groupwork (indicator fifteen), discussions of prior knowledge (indicator six), etc. I cannot pretend to agree with much of the STAI format's philosophical underpinnings nor even attempt to hide my distaste for it, but I do believe that taken with a grain of salt this set of lesson plans is a fair example of the marriage between what has become such a mundane requirement of the professional educator with the good intentions and original spirit that first required it.
